The Next Chapter

admin Feb 3, 2017 0 Comments Posted in: News, Yaya Baby Blog

An Announcement: The Next Chapter It’s a bit scary, but the next chapter isn’t written yet. Not even an outline. What I do know is that over the last several months I have had some clarity about my business. I have decided to close the Yaya Baby store. Whew! It took me a long time to come around to that idea. I've been hanging on because there really are so many things that I love about the store. Mostly, I love meeting people and genuinely helping families. I really tried to love the rest of it, but the many stressful sides of small business ownership have finally made me realize that it is time for this chapter to be complete. The best part has been the dear friendships that I have made - friendships that I know will last a lifetime, and I’m grateful to have met so many special people. There was also a sense of pride and validation every time I helped a family find the perfect carrier to make their lives easier and see their confidence as parents increase. And, ohhhh/.....

NEWBORN BABYWEARING with the BOBA STRETCHY WRAP What's our go-to newborn carrier? Hands down, it's the Boba Stretchy Wrap. This is a stretchy wrap that is beyond perfection for newborns. You can use it with older babies (up to 35lbs), but a newborn in a Boba is like heaven - for parents and baby. Made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex it has the perfect amount of stretch to get baby in, and lots of cushy support. We don't know how we would have survived the first 4 months of parenting with 3 kids without it. We loved it! The best part - you get to use 2 hands again, and maybe have a coffee or eat a sandwich. So yeah, everyone in the family loved the Boba Stretchy Wrap. But WHY you ask? Here's our top 5 reasons why we're mad about the stretchy wrap... 1.This wrap lets you hands-free carry your newborn ALL DAY. I left it tied on, and took baby in and out to change a diaper or feed, and then popped him right back in. I even pre-tied it on at home before I got in the car, /.....

10 Reasons You Need a Stretchy Wrap

10 Reasons Why You Need a Stretchy Wrap Babywearing is awesome anytime, but with a newborn, there's just nothing better. The Boba Stretchy Wrap is THE BEST. It isn't just picky mom approved, it's picky mom advocated. As a Certified Babywearing Educator, I can tell you that the stretchy wrap has so many wonderful benefits for parent and baby. And so we give you, 10 reasons you NEED a stretchy wrap: 1.  It keeps your baby in tight, but secure space. Your baby has spent 9 months in a womb - it's tight, it's cramped, and it's SUPER warm. Now their out in this big scary world with a whole bunch of space; it can be a little overwhelming. Newborns love to be put back into a confined space - it's why many people find swaddling effective. Carrying your baby in a stretchy wrap holds them tightly against your chest where it's warm, and pretty much as close to being back in the womb as they'll get. With a caregiver is also the safest place for baby, since they are at a nice, high height the/.....

Photo Credit: Ashley Pinson King Ring Slings, like Sakura Bloom, can be awesome. But I know better than anyone else they can take some major getting used to. As a Mom of 3, I thought the ring sling lovers were absolutely insane with my first two kids. I couldn't figure out the hype, thought they were horribly uncomfortable compared to a SSC (Soft Structured Carrier) or wrap, and just wasn't a fan. With my third, I had the opportunity to try on a Sakura Bloom ring sling with some help from someone that knew what they were doing. It was a true and deep love right from the start. I found that I had been doing everything wrong with the attempts I had made with my first two, and while we still love our SSCs and wraps, it's now our Sakura Bloom I reach for first. To help some of you get over that learning curve, I wanted to provide you all with a list of 5 mistakes you might be making with your ring sling. Photo Credit: Blyss Veer Where are those rings?? Parenting Advice You Don’t Need to Listen to

admin Oct 4, 2016 0 Comments Posted in: Parenting, Yaya Baby Blog

Parenting Advice: Just Toss It I've received a lot of advice. Even when people find out that my last was my 3rd baby. No doubt, when you're pregnant, when you're a new Mom, or when you are a seasoned Mom of many it doesn't matter... the general public has got some advice for you. And by some, what we mean is LOTS. Some of that is great advice, but most of it is complete and total garbage. We thought it might be nice to put it out there that not all advice is created equally. Sleep While the Baby Sleeps. Ok. Babies sleep a lot. It's true. But they don't sleep the way a grown adult needs to, so while the idea of sleeping while the baby sleeps is cute, it's not very practical to spend the first weeks of your life as a parent taking 15 minute - 2 hour cat naps all day everyday... so there's that. And then there's the part where even though newborns sleep a lot, they also take a whole lot of work. So when they finally shut their eyes for another one of those cat naps, that's your tim/.....

NEW STORE OPENING – January 2016

admin Dec 1, 2015 0 Comments Posted in: News, Yaya Baby Blog

We've found a home!! After waiting patiently for the right place to come along, we have finally found a location that is Picky Mom Approved. Starting January 2016, you'll be able to find Yaya Baby Boutique & Education at 101-399 Mountain Highway in North Vancouver, on the corner of Mountain Highway and Crown. This new store will be a retail shop, the hub for babywearing and cloth diaper classes as well as the centre for our online warehouse and distribution. We love this location because it's very central - right in the middle of North Van with lots of different ways to access us, close to Highway 1 for families coming from a far, plus it has parking and Moja Coffee and Bridge Brewing are right around the corner! It's funny, really, that this is the location we ended up with. It couldn't be more perfect. My good friend, Claudine, from ReStory Furnishings has called this location home for nearly 2 years. She has decided to branch out into real estate and was looking/.....
