Attention All Babies: Chew on This!

I have an addiction to kids books anyways, but these are by far, the coolest things I have ever seen. We received 2 copies of Indestructibles – Creep! Crawl! and Flutter! Fly! as gifts and we were instantly hooked.

These books are literally INDESTRUCTIBLE. My 8 month Rory can chew, squish, and drool all over his Indestructible and they do not rip apart – no gnawed off corners, torn out pages or pieces of paper found in his mouth. They can be wiped offed, thrown in the washing machine, and also claim that they can be put through the dishwasher, which I’m very tempted to try! In this funny video you can see more of the crazy antics the makers of Indestructibles are up to – running them over with a truck, playing tug of war, vigorous hand washing and more. Check it out here:

I never really liked the idea of my babies chewing on regular books. If many books can’t be recycled because of the gloss and dyes in them, then they probably aren’t that great to ingest. Indestructibles are made of a paper-like material that is non-toxic. While I generally don’t promote books as chew toys (how many times has Rory heard me say “we don’t chew on books, we read them”?) trying to keep a teething baby from putting everything in his mouth is like trying to keep me away from a bag of ketchup chips. You can try, but it’s likely going to happen anyways.

At first I was worried these books might just be for babies, but my 2.5 year old, Levi, LOVES them. His favourite is Humpty Dumpty on the Great Wall of China. (My Chinese husband loves this one, too!) My son knows the nursery rhyme by heart and now he thinks it’s fun to look at the pictures and “read” the book to us and his to baby brother. Humpty has kept both kids occupied in restaurants, doctor’s offices – anytime we have some time to kill. It fits in my purse no problem and is super lightweight.

The paring of popular nursery rhymes with world landmarks is quite humorous. Any series that is funny for adults, entertaining for toddlers and chew-proof for infants is excellent IMO. Some highlights of the series are:

Humpty Dumpty is about an egg named Humpty who’s perched on the Great Wall of China.

Hey, Diddle Diddle follows the coolest cat in New Orleans, a fiddle player who joins his other music-loving friends.

Hickory Dickory Dock follows two mice as they climb Big Ben.

Frere Jacques, a sleeping pastry chef dreams of bonbons and crêpes flying over the streets of Paris.

YAYA STAMP OF APPROVAL RATING: A+ from this Super Picky Mom (and teacher!)

We love it so much, we carry it on Yaya Baby. Check out all the titles we have in stock here.

CHAT:

What’s you favourite book to read to your kids? Is there a book that drives you crazy that your toddler wants to read over and over and over…?
